Location recce form

Where or what locations are you planning to shoot your music video?

·         I will to shoot my first scene in Oasis Academy Hadley. Because the school’s youth club has a conventional background being grafftiti which matches the hip-hop genre my artist applies him to.
Address: Oasis Academy Hadley. Bell Lane, Enfield, Middlesex EN3 5PA tel 020 8804 6946 email info@oasishadley.org

What do you like about it?
·         In my opinion, this location is a good chose because it is a appropriate location which suits hip-hop thus appealing to my target audience
What problems might you encounter with it? How do you plan to overcome them?
·         There are times that I may need to organise with the youth club worker so I can record my artist’s music video because the youth club is hardly empty. I will have to ask the youth club worker in advance to know dates and times to shoot the video.
How is your location relevant to your music video?
·         As my music video is the hip-hop genre the location links back to the genre as graffiti is an art that comes from the hip-hop subculture.
How does your location target your target audience?
·        My target audience are the youth who are a part of the hip-hop subculture thus by using a graffiti background as a main theme they can see that the music video targets them.

Where or what locations are you planning to shoot your music video?
·         I will to shoot my second scene in Durants Park, Enfield. Durants Park has an urban section of estates also a youthful park which targets my target audience.
Durants Park, Hertford Road, Enfield EN3 7ED
What do you like about it?
·         What I liked the most about this location was the colourful scenery such as the bright green grass which stands out frequently.
What problems might you encounter with it? How do you plan to overcome them?
·         The problem I will encounter the most when recording in this location is people walking in the camera frame as it is a local park. I  will overcome this by taking quick shots of the scene before any one could walk in the shot.
How is your location relevant to your music video?
·         As my music video targets youth and the hip-hop culture I believed that this location was relevant because parks are commonly known to youth masses also the urban area in the park links back to the hip-hop culture as it is shown to be a deprived area.
How does your location target your target audience?
·         As my artist is shown within these locations it shows that he relates to the youth and hip-hop culture.

Where or what locations are you planning to shoot your music video?
·         I will to shoot my third significant scene in Waved Recordings, Enfield. Waved Recordings is a recording studio for Hip-Hop, Rap, and R&B urban artists.
Waved Recordings, Swan Way, Middlesex, Enfield EN3 1RQ, tel: 0208 809 888
Swan Way, Enfield, Greater London
What do you like about it?
·         What I liked the most about this location was that it will show my artist rapping live in the studio, as it shows the audience what artists have to do be they publish a music single.
What problems might you encounter with it? How do you plan to overcome them?
·         The problems I may encounter in this location is that I wont be able to show the full studio as the booth is not large another for long shots or high angle shots. However I can show many close ups and medium shots of my artist rapping into the microphone inside the booth so my audience can witness his practice and performance.
How is your location relevant to your music video?
·         Recording studios are a conventional location within the Hip-Hop, Rap, and R&B urban genres as the artists like to show their target audience how and where they record their songs for example showing their facial expressions and showing the equipment they use.
How does your location target your target audience?
·         As my artist is shown within these locations it shows that he relates to the hip-hop culture as he follows the values and habits of the culture by showing his audience how he records in the booth.

Final Magazine Advert

Between my two drafts of my magazine advert I believed that my first advert was better than the last so I believed this one was more suitable to choose. The reason I choose this magazine advert was because this one looked more professional because the audience can see my artist clearly and his features this is essential as this is his first album so he needs audiences to recognise his appearance to create a connection thus selling more albums making the magazine advert a success. The background of the continuative estate is the main focus of the magazine advert as it follows Richard Goodwin’s theory. The artist comes from a suburban area which most people come from this making him look ordinary though as the background is altered to look colourful and bright as the sky and grass are bright by changing the brightness and contrast, hue and saturation also the curves to create a sunny effect it makes the artist stand out and look extraordinary causing the audience to think his rich while living in a deprived area. The audience see that the estates are in black and white causing it to look dull and unattractive this creating a depressed feeling towards the audience as the can tell that this area is not as cheerful but grimy.  The artist is shown wearing a black and red baseball cap while wearing a grey jacket and body warmer, he is also shown wearing a baggy jeans. I used a grey scale effort on my artist’s arms and jackets to match the estates, this causes the audience to understand that the artist is famous and extordinary but still ordinary as he still remembers his roots and history. These clothes are conventional to the hip-hop culture because he is shown wearing street wear such as snapback. The artist is shown to be edited on separate parts of his body for example his face has been brightened to look more attractive and natural the theme of the background while his jacket has been edited to look strong and heavy thus making him stand out more. The language is factual stating purely who the artist is, album title, release date, songs, and guest appearances thus purely informal to the audience to buy the album for example “includes both number ones ‘Real Hip-Hop’ and ‘Realer Than Most’” informs the audience that his songs are good enough to listen to on his album because they contain nation number one singles. I believe this magazine advert is a successful advert as it shows the audiences where to buy the album and download it from by showing music merchandise companies and an image of the album itself so the audience can remember what the album looks like.

Analysis of magazine adverts

Conventions of a Magazine advert
The conventions of a magazine advert should be the content the following:
·         Release date
·         Place of purchase
·         Image of the Album cover/ logo/ band symbol/ prominent image
·         Artist’s name
·         Record Label
·         Review
·         Genre of the band which reflects on the text/ colour/ font/ images
·         Information about what is included in the Album cover
This is used to promote artists albums in local and famous magazine to attract a wider audience and to appeal to their target audience. This notifies the audience of the information and features of the artist’s new album. Some artist’s do not use all the conventions in a album cover as some seem it is unnecessary while some have already gained fame from previous albums and feel that they do not need to put as much information and imagery in the album as they already have a fan base.
